I enjoy making sweets lately. These are rose flavors bavarois with rose water, rose oil and rose syrup. Mmm maybe I should put less rose flavors so it won't feel that much like perfume :-)

At last, I could make macarons after 4 more or less failed trials. I used Italian merengue this time as people say that its much easier to make them than when using French merengue. It's actually true... I tried 3 times to make them with French ones and it failed...
I still don't want to give up trying with the French style though. Anyway it's very exciting to see them rise and have a 'pied' (the fluffy crown) in the oven!

Madeleine - nonstick pan -

Just received my Madeleine molds from Japan! Immediately, I tried them at once to make madeleines.Tiny madeleines, they are so cute. This mold is very efficient, the cakes come off perfectly without putting butter. I am very satisfied with this :)

Melon Pan Bread

Recently, I'm absorbed in making bread or sweets... I tried several recipes to make this japanese bread which is called "Melon Pan" and I finally found my favorite. It's a two-layered bread dough and biscuit-like inside. I should have added more cookie's dough to cover the bread parts... Next time!
Now I'm struggling with making Macaron :(

Double waist pants - 6Y -

Children grow up so quickly! I was preparing winter clothes and recognized that all trousers from last year are already too short! I need to make some for my son who is now 6years old.
6y is just getting to a big boy and I think these pants must still be convenient at this age. The rib belt is stitched inside the jeans here. So when it's worn, the rib belt hides in their T-shirts. So it looks just like a cool pair of jeans but it's so easy to wear!!

As usual I stick to a pattern design that's slim line to be cool:)

Double waist pants for boys and girls!

Now I'm making these trousers pattern. I found the "double waist pants" are convenient for young kids. The boy who wears is 5y old.
These pants are great for both boys and girls, and they allow heaps of variations as you can change the waist rib parts as you like.

Fuwa Fuwa dress in Japanese style fabric

I made a Fuwa Fuwa dress with Japanese style fabric:) I'm still working on the sizing of the pattern and I hope I can update it soon. Suggestion : Try to make them with softer fabric and also with a firmer/straighter fabric.. I think they both work really well in their own way.

I found some tasty cookies in HK. I tasted them at my friend's place and she told me about them. Apparently they are sort of famous. Of course I went straight to their Causeway Bay shop to get them!

It's comes in a can looking like this and the design of the can varies depending on the season.

I know it is rich in calories but it's difficult to stop eating. You can enjoy them with coffee :)　 The shop is called "Jenny Bakery". If you have the opportunity while you are in HK, try to visit them. The store has branches everywhere : Causeway bay, Central, Stanley, Kowloon and Tsim Sha Tsui.

Fabrics in Sham shui po

I heard that there was loads of interesting things in the town called Sham shui po and so I went there right off. It was amazing! This area is the perfect place for people who sew.

Apparently there are shops for beads as well. Unfortunately I could not find them this time. I have to plan to go there again soon. Anyway we need to settle down before I can do anything though. The following shell buttons here are the ones I found there.

My friend gave me a lovely gift : an "Aromatic Diffuser". Actually I was thinking about getting one by myself just the day before she brought it to me. So it was a perfect gift!

New sofas!!

We finally received the new sofas! We asked the shop to change the fabric of the old one and we added one more sofa to go with it. At the beginning we had chosen the bright patterns, but we choose just a simple beige color so that we can play with the cushions. That was probably the right choice!
The trouble is that my son who is 3 year old scrawled with pen on it already.....

Kyaraben - Japanese lunch box

I got several cute goods to make kids meal look fun. They are called "Kyaraben" (kyara- for character and -ben from bento, the mealbox) in Japan and lots of mums make lovely lunch boxes with them!
I already used them and fixed cute dinner for the kids!!Of course the boys ate them all tonight! I put their names in Hiragana (Japanese) with carrots. I hope they learn the letters at the same time :)

Someone showed me this salon and it is just what I was looking for.
Of course I went straight there to cut my hair. The main person takes care of everything, shampoo, cut and perm by himself. He treated the hair with care. Highly recommended. Unfortunately I forgot my camera to take a picture of the shop!

Mainstream sizing for smock dress

I'm making different sizes for the smock dress. Smaller and bigger size. I also made another one for 4Y with different cotton. The model is 4Y and half and wear this size.

Looks good for kids that flounce around!

The fabric I used : double gauze mixed linen. Its very soft and comfortable to wear! Also quite easy to sew.

Iron ruler

Do you use an iron ruler when you fold hems and the likes?
I always use them because I don't need to draw guide line!

You can also make them if you cannot find the ruler around.
Draw the line as below on the thick paper. That's it! It can come in handy in your sewing:)

Smock dress - dropped waist

This is a smock dress with dropped waist. On the hip you can make gathering with a ribbon. It is easy to wear and comfortable.　It has raglan sleeves (you know the baseball shirt type).

What to do when the trousers have a hole?

My son loves these trousers (actually I also do), unfortunately they got a hole on the knee and he did not want to wear them anymore. I unstitched the side of the pants and embroidered over the hole with my machine. I have an innovis 80α by Brother. This machine is not expensive and does very good work. I am using this machine only for embroidery but actually it is a computer sewing machine and it does lots of other things.

How to make a waxed paper

I made a waxed paper and would like to show you how to make it as it was very simple and nice!
I used this to make my shops's original tags.

Preparation

* The paper you want to wax.
* Cookie sheet
* Candle
* Iron
* Cutter

Put the paper which you choose on the cookie sheet.

grind the candle wax with a cutter. (not too much, you can always add more) And put some on the paper.

Put a second cookie sheet (or fold it if big enough) on it

Press iron them slowly. The candle will be fusing right away.

Take off the top cookie sheet slowly. Make sure the candle is spread evenly.

let it dry a little.

These are same paper : the left side is before and the right side is after.
The paper is cool and transparent :)

I would love to recommend you to use "Rotary cutter" when you cut the fabric. You can cut the pattern correctly. Just don't forget to put down a cutting mat...

Ski in Karuizawa

We went to Karuizawa for ski. It is very recommended if you go with kids! Because....it takes just 1 hour from Tokyo station by Shinkansen (express train) without connection. When we arrive in Karuizawa, the prince hotel is just 10min by walking. (take a taxi if it's too far for you)
I was not sure about staying in a cottage with the kids, but actually it was just perfect. They have "Kids park" for small kids who doesn't do ski yet. They can enjoy sledging!

Finally I received my shop logo stamp! Actually my son loves to draw pictures, particularly rockets... I found that's very cute and decided to make the stamp with it. I also embroidered this rocket on a couple of T-shirts I made last time. He looked so proud and happy to wear them :)

We are now try to make a cute living room. We'd love to add another sofa to get a corner L shape. For the moment we have one sofa with lots of different color fabrics and it makes it difficult to choose another one. 2 new sewing machines!

I decided to buy 2 new and slightly different sewing machines and I received them yesterday! They look great and cannot wait to use them.
The top one is to do cover stitch. I was hesitating between buying this model or the Babylock by JUKI. But I finally got this one because there will be more options for using in the future. The 2nd one is a professional sewing machine and it is built to be very strong to sew. I chose Janome brand this time : I was recommended these machines by the salesperson at the shop. It seems that the Janome HS80 is a very good machine so I am excited about using it.
I just recognized that I can attach the knee-lift like on an industrial machine. I will update my feedback on them after I start using them. I have to learn how to use them first of all...
Now I should be ready to start the real work with my 5 machines! :)

Found a new lovely shop

There were many people out in the street as we're approaching year end. I was in Omotesando and found a new lovely shop. It has opened on 30th Nov 09. There are lots of cute "Okaki" (= Japanese rice snack.) I tried them and they just taste great!! These okaki manage to be light, thin and so fine. What a success.
The shop is called "Jukka". If you have opportunity to go to Omotesando, try to visit them.
It can be a nice gift for anyone you like. Or for yourself : of course I brought some home! :)

I'm making a pattern for a new pair of trousers. It's called "Sailor pants for kids". One of the good point is that these pants are unisex. I used black background polka-dot for the pants facing together with this beige fabric. I think it can be fine for both boy and girl. Actually I made this one for my son who is 3 years old now:)

This is a cake shop called Qu'il fait bon! in Ginza.
Their cakes are so cute and I always feel like buying all of them. If you have any chance to go to Ginza, I highly recommend you to visit this shop:) It's something quite different from the usual cake shops you'd find in Europe for instance.

I received the new tea pot "Nanbu Tetsubin". I chose this bronzed color for tea pot and white for the mat. This pot looks very popular in Europe now and there are many other colors to choose from. I hesitated mostly between white and pink. But all of them are soooo cute:)

"Daikon Ame" for caughing (Throat drop )

I made "Daikon-Ame" for my son who has started to caugh a lot!
Have you heard about this?
This drink is made of daikon and honey.
Cut the daikon into small dices (1cm x 1cm), no need to peel it off. Then put lots of honey until the daikon is covered completely.

Wait overnight and you can use the sweet juice that has been made.
It is supposed to be good for dry and wintery throats.....
This is one of the old-time remedies from our grandmothers :)

I made some necktie for children. He was proud to wear it and say it's "same as my Daddy!" They can be very fashionable to wear when we join a ceremony or a wedding etc.....

These are spats for kids! (Leggings?) I fit it with longer rib for hem than usual. It looks like a legs warmer, doesn't it?
It was very sunny day today (for once). Who knows how long it will last...

Flowers for hair clip

I made a black pants with an embroidered "R" letter. As I cannot find out slim trousers for boys, I try to make them. Used cotton 100% fabric.

Bijoux with Swarovski Crystal Beads

Those accessories are made of Swarovski crystal beads. I made many many bijoux like rings, earing, hair pin, neckless and bracelets. I don't do it now as I am a bit busy.
It was actually very popular in Paris.

T-shirts with embroideries

My son grew up very quickly and I need to make some bigger sized clothes now. Anyway I started to make a T-shirt and I put embroideries as the fabric was plain clolor. I feel now it was a very good decision to get the embroidery sawing machine. Because that makes plaint coton cuter.

Petticoat Pants for girls ( Linen pants )

This is a pair of petticoat pants. I think it should be fit under any skirt or dress.
The length will be just below the knees. Its very cute to see the ruffled hem under their skirts.

Material is 100% linen (and lace for the hem)
